LewisGene @ Solaris, Mont Kiara

LewisGene - located at Solaris Mont Kiara, just above of Chilla Cup is a warm, cozy and comfortable cafe that serves delicious dessert and great coffee. It was my first time here even though I've passed by this cafe a couple of times. The cafe is not very huge but the interior makes it look spacious. There is a balcony with table and chairs which I assume is catered specially for those who smoke or just prefer to enjoy the night view of Solaris Mont Kiara. One of the criteria that most people look for in a cafe nowadays are power points for their computers or to charge their phone / Ipads; you will not be disappointed here in LewisGene. The only thing that I dislike about this cafe is that the tables are placed too closely to each other hence privacy is an issue especially if you do not want people sitting beside you to listen to your conversation. 

Menu of the cafe is written on a black board with the price. Being in a new place, I always enjoy taking my own sweet time to order my coffee; to find something special that I can try. In here, I don't feel the pressure of a waiter standing next to you with a big smile while trying to take your order. Once you are ready, they will be there to take take your order. Since I already had 2 cups of Flat White that day, I've decided to go for Ice Latte. It was smooth and not too sweet (since I don't have a sweet tooth). The balance between the sweetness of the syrup and coffee is just nice. 

Besides coffee, my friends and I shared 2 slices of cake here and I simply love it. You can't miss the variety of desserts available once you enter the cafe. We had Tiramisu and French Cream Crepe. Among these 2 dessert, I fell in love with the French Cream Crepe. The cream was fresh, smooth and not too sweet. The balance of the flavor is just perfect. The Tiramisu is good too. I love the nuts on top of the cake which are nice to munch on together with the cake.

LewisGene is definitely one of the places that I will visit again. It will be one of those cafes where I would sit there for hours to do my work or just hangout with friends. Perhaps, one of these days I will go and try their food.

Prague

After spending a few days blending into the life of the people in Apeldoorn, its time to go on another adventure in the capital city of Chech Republic - Prague. Peter the awesome (that's what he claim to be :P) joined me on this 5 days 4 nights adventure. Our flight is from Rotterdam, so we stayed with a couple from Peter's church - Sibbele and Minka whom just moved to Rotterdam a few weeks ago and are still settling down. We happen to be their first guests.

In Prague, Peter is the man with directions. One lesson I learn is to NEVER interfere a man when it comes to directions. Even when you think you are lost and have no idea which road to take, don't suggest the ''lets ask for direction'' - just chill and be patient. They will figure it out sooner or later. Just follow wherever they go with a little faith.

We explored the Prague square and the famous Charles Bridge on the first day. Taking our own time to enjoy Prague. The medieval torture museum was one of our first stop. It was quite sick to see how people were tortured and punished in the old days if they were suspected being involved with witchcraft or being in an affair with someone, talking bad about someone or even when they somehow break a rule. Sometimes they are being tortured just coz they are "suspected" of something. I had a thought - if the person is innocent at the end of the day, the dude is pretty much half dead by then. It's pretty crazy.

The real adventure begins on the 2nd and 3rd day when we joined the Free City Tour and Castle Tour that took us around the city while explaining to us the history of this beautiful city. There are many beautiful churches here but sadly it is no longer used for religious purposes. As I observed the beauty of all these churches, I wonder how it would be like if I am able to do some singing in it. :P

We visited a few synagogues (seen-a-goat :p) on the 4th day. These synagogues tells the history of the Jews in Prague during the war. My heart melted and was broken when I saw the drawings of the Jewish kids who were living during these time. They were living in fear, hunger and they long for freedom. I cant imagine how life was for them. We also explored the Perin's hill and the lookout point with a huge red metronome (which represents the tempo of Prague apparently) to see the beauty of this city. It is definitely breathtaking. 

5 days in Prague was great. One of the city that I truly love and enjoy. The tour guide said that if I were to touch the statue of Yhann at Charles Bridge, I will definitely come back to Prague one day. Well, touch or not, I'm sure one day I'll be back in Prague. 

Dream come true

I've been to many places in my life especially in the Asia pacific area. I remember it very well that after my 18th birthday I told myself that Europe (Holland) will be my next destination thanks to my friend Thijs Kouwenhaven who told me so much about this beautiful country.

After waited for so many years, I finally step my foot in the land of the tulips. Thanks to the long and tiring days I had from the APBF Congress, I slept almost throughout the 12 hours flight. Unlike any other country I've been to, arrival card needs to be filled in but not here. The officer asked me a bunch of questions before I receive my first Netherlands stamp on my passport. A familiar face was waiting for me at the arrival hall as  as I walk out - but without my name on a card (would be nice wouldn't it :P).

Spent the last 3 days attending CGs (they call it kring here) and a BBQ with people from church here. It seems that everyone knows me or tells me that "Ahhh.....you are the girl from Malaysia!" They are really friendly and full of humor. Questions that commonly asked with just such short time is "What do you think of Holland? Are you ok with Dutch food?" Guess what? I have no problem with Dutch cuisine. They are simply delicious!

Bicycles is one of the most important mode of transportation here and to be part of the culture, I got to learn how to cycle. First obstacle was to find a bicycle that suit me. Being an Asian who is shorter than 98% of the Dutch, it was not easy to ride one that is too tall for me. Thanks to Peter's parents who managed to find the perfect bicycle for me within 24 hours. First cycling training was to the supermarket then a little bit further to pick up Peter's dad's car from the office. It was really fun to cycle in the rain, who would want to cycle in the rain in Malaysia right?

With just 3 days in Apeldoorn, I managed to visit Haarlem and Het Loo Palais. Haarlem contains a few hundred years of history and it is really beautiful. The visit was short as I experienced the typical Dutch weather - rain.

After 3 days of familiarising myself with the Dutch culture, yours truly is currently in one of the most beautiful city in the world - Prague. It is different from Apeldoorn - the buildings, the people and even the history. I will blog more about Prague in my next post once I am back in Apeldoorn. Starbucks CNY Dragon Candy Jar 2012

Spotted this cute little candy jar from Starbucks Malaysia Facebook page yesterday and I instantly call my friend to help me grab it before it is gone (since she works in Berjaya). Not that I am trying to be kiasu, merchandises like this usually runs out fast. I am glad that it is part of my collection now. *yay!*

Happy Birthday to Lilian

Ever since I took over the young people's ministry starting from this year, I have been constantly hanging out with them for the past couple of days. Last night was one of our leader's birthday. It was meant to be a surprise but as some of them said, this is sort of a half surprise? Besides making 2 other guys and myself to wait for almost an hour before the rest of them show up, it was a fun night over steamboat (been craving for it for some time).

Look who's back?

Marcus my god-brother came back to KL for a week to sort out some stuff and also to visit me. It has been a few years since we catch up with one another. It was really good to see him again. This time round we manage to catch up with one another over a few meals and me being his driver; taking him wherever he needed to go. The thing about us is that even though we are in 2 different country, but it always seems like just yesterday we had a meal or a drink together. The word "stranger" or "awkward" is never in the dictionary for our friendship. Love the quality time spent over the week. Can't wait to see him again in a few months time. :D
